Museum of the Residence of Paul Koundouriotis in Hydra
This is the winner of a Diploma.
The restoration of a large private residence and its walled compound from the beginning of the 19th century, and its conversion into a private museum about the family and the history of the island.
The mansion had suffered damage caused by excessive humidity, sea air, old age and neglect. The roof and other structural elements needed repair and wooden cornices and decorations of geometric and sculpted design were restored. The restoration interventions were limited so as not to influence the appearance, character and structure of the
monument. Spaces were converted for exhibitions.
“For the carefully researched restoration, executed with striking care for detail, of an important historical mansion on the island of Hydra and its conversion into a museum.”
